Spiral wound gaskets

Spiral wound gaskets (SWG) are manufactured by spirally winding a V-shaped metal strip and a strip of non-metallic filler material (graphite, PTFE).

Due to their structure these gaskets are used in the high-pressure area and under critical operating conditions. They are highly suitable for the sealing of flanged joints with high changes in temperature and pressure and have a good recovery behaviour.

Spiral wound gaskets can be strengthened by an centering ring and/or inner ring. Our standard production program comprises a range of spiral wound gaskets with inner diameters of 20 bis 3500mm and a nominal thickness of 3.2mm, 4.5mm, 6.5mm and 7.2mm. Spiral wound gaskets of non-standard dimensions and shapes, and larger diameters are available on request.

For standard- / norm-gaskets overnight delivery or 48h / 72h delivery service available upon request!

Spiral wound gaskets with inner retaining ring

These gaskets are manufactured of a spiral-wound metal strip and a non-metallic filler material. The inner retaining ring increases the axial rigidity and resilience of the gasket.

Materials metal strip
Steel - 1.4301, 1.4401, 1.4541, 1.4571
Monel (NiCu30Fe) - 2.4360
Filling material
Graphite 99,85% - operating temperature -100°C bis +550°C
Graphite 98% - operating temperature -100°C bis +400°C
PTFE - operating temperature -200°C bis +250°C
Material inner ring
Generally the material corresponds to that of the metal strip.
Application limit
Operating pressure max. 320 bar
Gasket thickness
3,2mm - 4,5mm - 6,5mm - 7,2mm
Profile type
ITS MS 12

Spiral wound gaskets with outer centering ring

These gaskets are manufactured of a spiral-wound metal strip and a non-metallic filler material. The metallic outer centering ring controls the compression and holds the gasket centrally within the bolt circle.

Monel (NiCu30Fe) - 2.4360
Filling material
Graphite 99,85% - operating temperature -100°C bis +550°C
Graphite 98% - operating temperature -100°C bis +400°C
PTFE - operating temperature -200°C bis +250°C
Material outer centering ring
C-Steel - galvanised, varnished, or high-grade steel
Application limit
Operating pressure max. 320 bar
Gasket thickness

Features

  • Outstanding temperature resistance - permanent temperature:-100°C to approx. +550°C (from +450°C consultation necessary)
  • constant diffusion rates - also at high temperatures
  • Good temperature-changing behaviour, high compressibility, good adaptability
  • High pressure application limit (320 bar) - Fire safe appliances
  • very good media resistance, particularly against corrosive materials and chemicals
  • no ageing or embrittlement- harmless to health

Areas of Application/ Appliances

  • applicable for very high operating pressures, full utilisation of the screw forces recommended
  • middle to high admissible surface pressure, operating pressure max. 100 bar, permanent temperature max. +550°C
  • primarily with high leak tightness requirements (fulfils TA-Luft), because of high gas and liquid tightness
  • no special requirements for the flange sealing surfaces, flange form C by DIN EN in 1092 is enough
  • Application in particular in pipelines and containers of the chemical and petrochemical industry, the power stations as well as heating installations and more
